ARP OBJECTIVES
Our Members
agree to:
3.1 support, and endorse Members as candidates in Federal Elections;
3.2 promote reconciliation between Australia's Aboriginal and
non-Aboriginal peoples, encouraging a spirit of partnership and
genuine power sharing in all aspects of Australian life;
3.3 promote and support social, cultural, and economic advancement
of Aboriginal peoples;
3.4 encourage Governments and agencies, legal, cultural and educational
institutions, Aboriginal organisations, and the media to work
together to improve community awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal
peoples as the first peoples - with distinct cultures, rights
and status;
3.5 promote the inclusion of Aboriginal voices in all aspects
of social, cultural and political life in Australia including
official channels and community organizations;
3.6 pursue the eradication of all law that discriminates against
Aboriginal people and in particular those that result in levels
of imprisonment and punishment disproportionate to levels experienced
by other races;
3.7 ensure the Government's policies and practices meet Australia's
international Indigenous and Human Rights obligations;
3.8 pursue the implementation of a Reparations Tribunal for Members
of the Stolen Generations;
3.9 promote and support legislation against Acts of Genocide;
3.10 insist that Governments deliver social justice to Aboriginal
peoples;
3.11 pursue legal reform, in particular by encouraging judicial
officers to consider traditional culture and law in sentencing
and decision making;
3.12 pursue amendments to the Australian Constitution which:
- 3.12.1 formally
recognise Aboriginal Sovereignty and acknowledge that Aboriginal
peoples have never ceded their sovereignty of the land and waters
of Australia;
- 3.12.2 encourage
Treaty negotiations between Australian Aboriginal peoples and
the Commonwealth of Australia;
- 3.12.3 eliminate
racist references.
3.13 pursue and support a Bill of Rights for all Australians;
3.14 promote dialogue regarding, and thus a better understanding
of, Aboriginal peoples perspectives of self-determination, identity,
and land and sea rights;
3.15 promote increased recognition and support, including financial,
of Aboriginal modes of learning, and the roles of traditional
teachers;
3.16 encourage the media to feature stories that promote reconciliation
and challenge racist stereotypes;
3.17 promote respect and care for our environment.
