Sophia
Age 23 Sophia comes from a background of art and a gypsy culture. She grew up in Tasmania and spent the greater part of her childhood on the beaches, in the forests and mountains. The untamed wilderness is very close to her heart. "During the course of my life I have witnessed extreme acts of wanton destruction to places of beauty and truth". It is her belief that to become a strong people, culture, and country Australia needs to keep intact its' abundant wildlife and live in harmony with the laws of the land.
The indigenous people of this country must be given the respect they deserve, rather than abuses to their culture, livelihood and humanity. "They have lived with this land for thousands of years and we can learn much from them." Over the last few years, Sophia has become aware of Australia's involvement in the uranium trade and is appalled at the number of proposed and operating mines, and by the proposition for a waste dump. She involves herself in actions that further her visions for a harmonious future. "For me this mission through the desert is a way to be heard. It is a means to express and strengthen my opposition towards the nuclear cycle and hopefully to bring inspiration and empowerment to other people. We all have the power to do something to create positive change."
