A QUARTERLY PUBLICATION OF THE BOYCOTT WOODCHIPPING CAMPAIGN

May 1999

Welcome to Woodchip Watch

the first quarterly publication that concentrates on woodchipping issues in Australia. It aims to provide information for shareholders, investors, analysts and the general public about the growing opposition around the country to this industry.

From consumer boycotts to shareholder activism, it is clear that the public is waking up to the myth that governments have protected our forests. News items, updates or questions encouraged.

About the Boycott
Woodchipping
Campaign

The BWC was formed in 1996 by a broad range of Australia's environment groups campaigning to protect forests, including the Australian Conservation Foundation, Conservation Council of Western Australia, Environment Victoria, Friends of the Earth, Native Forest Network, Nature Conservation Council of New South Wales, Otway Ranges Environment Network and The Wilderness Society. It now comprises over thirty national, regional and local groups. It aims to move beyond the traditional practice of political campaigning and to focus on the woodchipping companies themselves.

Conservation NGO Demands

  1. Immediately cease the export woodchipping of Australia's high conservation value forests
  2. End the clearance of native forests for plantation establishment
  3. Transfer operations into Australia's exisiting and well-established plantation estate
